Some words along the sounds of π-Dogx’s second CD: Reliquum Fertilis
Just a few words then…
Some of these tracks have been (are) up on our MySpace player, but about half of them have until now been lying around in light slumber, waiting to be released.
BTW, we have chosen (as usual) not to compress the recordings, but leave the dynamics as they were in the air when we were recording. To get the right feeling, they should be played fairly loud. A rock drummer would sometimes have to restrain himself a bit to fit in, but not always.
When there is no mentioning of the background of ..titles and session names, there is no background. Track titles are mostly set immediately after recording, so our immediate feelings and subconsious are probably involved a lot. Or maybe Boch is keeping a secret every now and then – fair enough…
1. No Hustle
from the session Aquila of 2009-01-02
The Hassel inspired cello sounds come from playing overtones through a pitch shifter (an octave I think). Secret disclosed, very beautiful sound it is.
2. Longing
from the session Longing of 2009-01-10
At this time we were testing a way of work including repetition. So we tried to record the same track over and over, listening between takes, and hopefully improving. So recordings from this session is Longing, Longing!, Longing!! etc. The track selected for this CD is Longing!!!2, actually a remix of parts from two different Longing…
Was it worth the trouble? Well, that’s not for us to say, but still use this doitagain method from time to time…
3. System Overlord
from the session Anus Lupus of 2009-02-07
Name is due to – you guessed – a system overload error on Boch’s Mac, cutting out pieces of the recorded (or in this case not recorded) sounds. Otherwise fairly pleased with the sounds, we glued together the pieces and, voila; The result doesn’t show much of the disruption, does it?
4. Fürlise
from the session Hopploesa of 2009-02-14
Session name means Hopeless…
Promised to devote a track to my wife, for letting me of to my little fun every week, and her name is Lise, so there. One of the few π-Dogx recordings she has actually listend to. Almost all of it!
First track of the session, and turned out to be the one we like best.
5. Crow X Heed
from the session Inflammable Heart of 2009-02-28
This is a shorter remix than the track that was on our player, which should have been named ‘Crashed!’ Both are made the day of the recording.
6. Villkor
from the session Dry Throat of 2009-03-27
Villkor means condition(s)…
In a period where we were trying to deploy sounds and silence, using surprise as a tool, avoiding drones etc.
7. Sunny Side
from the session Daul of 2009-04-25
My midi keyboard has two additional modes, selctable and printed on top. One is ‘Split’, with a fairly obvious purpose, the other is ‘Daul’ which is maybe equally obvious… Didn’t notice until after a couple of weeks. BTW, the s/w Boch is using shows it’s proper name in several places, but on the window frame (or somewhere like that) the name is ‘Locig’! Does anyone else out there use this software?
Anyway, on session before this one Boch had brought back his cello into use, and the magic is still there…
8. Stilico R
from the session Daul of 2009-04-25
Stilico was some kind of war leader in the Roman empire. (Boch’s bag…)
Quite a different track from Sunny Side, enough so to include it here.
9. Ping Slippings
from the session Slim Pickings of 2009-05-21
A new, stationary PC has been included in the setup, removing some of the limitations on my side. Makes life easier, though you may not hear it, and this session was reduced due to technical obstacles. One track only. This one…
10. Layers
from the session Nest of 2009-05-29
This turned out to be π-Dogx’s session on archeology; The other two recordings were Excavated and Petrified.
More planning than usual. Almost a composition, implemented in three different ways. Layers is the monkey in the middle.
That concludes my writing for this time.
Should have done this in time to include it in the download package, but you can’t have it all, can you? hehe
What’s that? You can, you say? Hmm that’s interesting, how do you mean… could you show… let’s take a little walk, you and I so that… Just a second, I just need to say goodbye to my friends here…
Bye,bye, friends!
Peace!
